I would recommend contacting the Department of State (U.S. Department of State) or even CIS.
Do it the right way as opposed to paying a less then ethical lawyer to do
it improperly.

Chromekitty, sounds like you may have had a bad experience in the past with a lawyer? If so, sorry to hear that, most lawyers are well-intentioned, highly ethical professionals. My better half is a top-tier Imm Law attorney and is the most ethical person I know. She has made the impossible possible for many good clients from other countries. An excellent Imm Lawyer can get the process moving much more quickly and succinctly. However, if people out there think that filing these government docs for immigration purposes on your own will save you time and money, you're so wrong!

Have to comment here my immigration lawyer based in Miami was expensive (so I thought) and excellent.

Turns out he charged about the average price and I never had any problems all the way fro 2 H1B1 visa's green card to citizenship.

The horror stories I heard about some immigration lawyers would turn you hair white.

Just for the record somebody filing green card doing it themselves at the same time as me had another 18 months longer wait than I did.
