My husband has just accepted a position in Spartanburg, SC. We currently live in Winston-Salem, but would be willing to move in a year or so. Could anyone recommend the area best suited for a Jewish family of four, best schools and with a decent commute to Spartanburg? Any thoughts on Belmont? Thanks.

I am confused as to why you want your husband to have such long commutes? Why not just live in Spartanburg? If it's too rural for you, try nearby Greenville, that's a very nice small city.

I thought Charlotte would be a happy medium, as that's where I work... Don't know much about Greenville, other than it has a very pretty downtown. Any thoughts?
Taking feedback from folks here that sit in front of computers all day is not very productive unless you are looking for opinions on Pizza. Obviosly, Greenville is the next largest city to Spartansburg,
but you and your husband need to find a place to stqy for a day or two to scout the area and test the commute.

Is there no one at your shul who knows of a Jewish community in SC? I think there is a reform temple in Greenville....
I drove back and forth from S. Charlotte to Greenville for a month. The drive wasn't awful, but I can't say I'd look forward to a 1+hr each way commute every day for an extended period. I really liked Greenville, FWIW. However, moving there would sentence you to the opposite commute - Greenville to Charlotte and back.
Belmont seems like a nice little town, but I have no idea of the Jewish presence there.

We're just thinking that if for some reason his position in SC does not work out, he's more likely to find something in Charlotte.
