I moved from Fairfield County last August to FAYETTEVILLE and wouldn't go back, though I'm glad that I'm moving to the Charlotte area this summer. If Fayetteville beats CT then I know I'll love Charlotte even more (nicer bigger newer house for less money than our OLD house in CT, people are nicer, weather is nicer, though now I can complain about the heat instead of the cold!)

We are hopefully moving down this summer from New Haven. We came down for a visit and liked it enough to leave it all behind us. This is big for us - We just spent 5 years renovating a historic home - which we love -here and I am just walking away. We are coming for good schools, lower taxes, warmer weather, friendly people, etc.. To hear that other people from CT are well adjusted there makes me feel like I am definitely making the right decision.

Snowhite, you are not walking away, your closing a chapter and opening a new chapter.

You won't miss anything when it's 60 degrees and CT is getting hit with a 'noreaster.

Honestly, I don't know of anyone who moved to Fayetteville voluntarily. They were all assigned to the army base there. The running joke is to refer to it as "Fayettenam". Being a veteran whose lived in military family housing at multiple bases/posts before, I would never, ever suggest that people live in close proximity to a base. The quality of life is bound to be below most people's standards. Liquor stores, pawn shops, overabundance of fast food, yuck. I would hate to think that Fayetteville is anyone's first (or only) impression of North Carolina.

Good luck with your move to the Charlotte area. We moved from Jersey and absolutely love it here in Union County.

I always refer to NC as "Southern" Southern New England.

Don't worry, I'm actually in Charlotte right now looking for a place to live temporarily and a house to buy! So, I will have a place to live by the time I come down--just not set, yet!

You should be able to rent something quickly, there are always apartment complexes.

do they have the ongoing joke in CT like they do in NY = for the last person who leaves to shut the lights off?
