Why has the light rail failed? I thought it was just started up?

Yeah, I am not even going to bother explaining. All I am going to say is that you are WAY off and you have no idea what you are talking about.

Apparently, there will be a voter referendum on the November ballot to repeal the Mecklenburg County mass transit sales tax. Those opposed to the current tax need to collect 48,669 names by August to get the issue on the ballot. The county Board of Elections has already validated 47,089 of the petition names collected so far.

Your probably one of the ones that want to stop construction now so that we have a nearly completed rail line that will never get used. Talk about all the wasted money and time.

I'm new to Charlotte and even though from what I've heard the light rail has taken forever, I don't think it would make any sense to stop funding the light rail. All major cities have mass transit systems including subway/light rail. Charlotte needs this in order to continue growing and prospering. Additionally, if you look at all the posts on this site complaining about traffic, there is obviously a need for mass transit. It would also be better for the environment and save people who work in Uptown the daily parking fee. I know that taxes suck (I moved from the Northeast and I know ALL about them) but they are necessary (at least we don't have to pay $5 tolls every few miles here!).

The city MUST have it running no later than December 31, 2007 or the lose $200 million in federal funding. With gas prices going up, any alternative to automobile trasnportation is good. You think the 1/2 cent is going to make a difference? We all know city council is just going to raise your property tax again to make up for it.
