we have some severe drought conditions in South FL too.... I know Lake Okeechobee (South FL main water supply source) is at a record low in its history. Kind of scary wondering why everywhere across the nation is under a drought condition.
I even spoke with a friend of mine in Australia. He told me they are under drought conditions as well and have mandatory water restrictions as well...
Try a low-flow shower head too, double-flush toilets can allow you to select the volume of a flush, or just dump the toilet water on the lawn for double duty.
Words you'll never hear in the Pacific North-wet. We're moving from Seattle to Charlotte, so it will be interesting to see the change in water culture! It rains here so much that no one even notices until the rain hits 25+ straight days.

Well, when you come down and over, will you PLEASE bring some rain with you? Thanx!
Wow, hopefully this isn't turning into a Sheryl Crow philosophy on "waste management".
I'm actually now happy I have Bermuda grass, it's hardy during the hot days and I only water it a couple times a week and only after sunset (watering during the day virtually has no effect as it's quickly evaporated). Towards the end of the summer maybe I'll do 3 times a week.
Gotta love the Bermuda grass! We haven't watered the lawn once and it still looks pretty good ... that goes for our entire subdivision. With a lawn our size, I simply couldn't imagine watering it with any frequency due to costs. Was bummed by it during the Winter but oh how I understand and appreciate its value now.
Just wanted to note, as I understand it, for those whose water supply is drawn from the City of Monroe, the water restrictions do NOT currently apply. We are on voluntary conservation. Any change in that status will be published in the Enquirer Journal, as well as on their website.
We had really bad drought the first year I moved here in 2001 too.
