Publix has been consistently cheaper than Bi-Lo and Food Lion.
Struggling chains usually increase their prices, then launch a series of lower price promotions to get customers into their stores.
I don't shop at either of those so don't know their prices.
My husband went to Publix last Saturday and came home with three bags of groceries and spent $96. He got some meat (I think 3/4 things of it) and 2 subs and one more thing.
Concord now has a nice new Publix, as well as a longtime Harris Teeter. Those are probably the nicest stores, and if you shop the weekly sales and coupons they can be reasonable. Bi-Lo is declining in the Charlotte area, but Food Lion does have a new prototype store in Concord with their latest renovation, but I have not been there recently. And I believe there is a lone remaining Lowe's Foods in Harrisburg.
Grocery shopping is not a one size fits all obviously.
Take a product like eggs.
I will buy them most times at Harris Teeter becuase usually every couple weeks they have a deal for a dozen or 18 eggs that will beat every other store. Just last week an 18pk was 1.99. Where can you get them that cheap? Maybe BJ's or Costco, but not Walmart/Publix/Food Lion etc....
If you want to save money, you have to be savvy and always look at the specials..
Even though this thread was resurrected from years ago.....
Publix is just as expensive as Harris Teeter. HT does have good deals and if you stick to those you won't spend as much. I'm really hoping that Wegman's will make it's way down here after Cary.
Complete agree and I think when Wegmans arrives, Charlotte is in for a real treat! I love Wegmans, its probably the only thing I miss about living in DC

Wegman's has to get to Raleigh first, then we will see if they decide to venture down to Charlotte. And by that time, perhaps we will see a 78,000 to 100,000 square foot Harris Teeter arrive first in the Charlotte region.
Publix seems almost identical to Harris Teeter in price and selection. They're basically interchangeable in my opinion. I was always wondering what the rave was about them but once they came here, I haven't found anything that made them seem much different.
Never been to a Wegman's before.
