My boyfriend and I are thinking of moving to Charlotte area from the Chicagoland area. He has a union job here and works as an asphalt laborer and crew lead - does anyone know the average wages in Charlotte for this kind of work? Or if there are unions down there? Also - we're a younger couple (28 & 31) looking for an area that has things to do - restaurants, bars and so for - any suggestions?

No Unions down here.... Just City workers

There should be plenty of things for you to do down here. If you have not already maybe a long weekend would help with your decision.

Downtown Charlotte...called Uptown is a nice place for all of that. I think you will really enjoy yourself.

Unions are not very prominent in the south, with the exception of some industries like airlines and truck driving. NC is considered a "right to work" state which is one reason so many corporate headqaurters are based here.

Plenty of restaurants and bars around here with more coming up all of the time.

Thanks for the quick responses! We will be coming to Charlotte in a few months for a long weekend. I will definitly check out the uptown area - are there any suburbs that would be good to check out too? I am not familiar with the area at all and any other suggestions would be great!!
