Zipbags - Neofelx has stated I don't know my facts, but I do. The teachers I know in CMS pay extra for their children and spouses. You can look online to see what the coverages are, for example I was looking at the state blue cross and blue shield and there were some rough numbers out there. I beleive the plans go into effect July 1st so you can get real cost amounts after that point.
Ofcourse, if yoru wife is already hired then HR should be able to provide this information to you. There are many factors that will affect how much you pay also. In my corporate job I pay $399 twice a month for my health insurance for my whole family. I'm anxious for my spouse to get a teaching job, which he hasn't as of today, so we can cut our health insurance costs down.
From what the Union Cty benefits page seem to read. The school pays for her medical...If she wants to add the family. We pay the extra. I saw that you paid $800 a month..Which seems very high. Since I own a small family business. And we paid $1000 a month for family. And we had 3 people on the plan. A company or school should definitely get a much cheaper rate.

From the CMS Web-Site:
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg area is one of the fastest growing regions in the country. So it should come as no surprise that we hire over 1,000 new teachers a year. We offer one of the highest local supplements in the state, a comprehensive benefits package and relocation assistance. So review our current openings and consider what life might be like living in the diverse and dynamic city of Charlotte.

Sadly I work for a HUGE company, atleast 10,000 plus people and I pay that much for the whole family. I'm banking on my husband getting his teachers benefits to free up atleast $300 a month from the health insurance expense. The kicker is that our health insurance is driven by family levels, married, parent and child, single or whole family. Ofcourse, our CEO decides who pays what and how much, it's rough but we cannot live without insurance.
