Need an honest assessment of this local band (money, offer)

I'm very good friends with all the members of a local band called Feathered Serpent. They are sinking a lot of money into recording an album, as well as pretty much all of their free time. The response they have gotten from close friends is of course, all positive. But outside of friends and family, there really hasn't been much response at all. When I get people who don't know the band to listen to them, I get a lot of varied responses. It ranges from "I really like the guitar work" to "the leader singer can't sing and tries to hide it behind the backup vocals."

If you can, offer constructive criticism both here and there. I want my friends to make it big. But if there is little chance of that happening, I'd like for them to find out early on.
