How is the job outlook in Chattanooga and the surrounding area? Family and I found a place to rent in Whitwell so would probably be looking towards Chattanooga for work. Wife has Deli/Dietary Aide experience,I have truck driving experience no 18 wheelers just dump trucks etc.

The best thing you can do is look for a job. Try some of the common career boards and see what you can find.

Can you tell me how the employment situation is in that area of Tn right now? Is unemployment high or are places hiring pretty good?

Well Whitwell is small and not a lot of employment opportunities. Chattanooga is in pretty decent shape however. Not like before the recession of course, but better than average.

What keith said. Overall job market in Chattanooga is above average. My engineering firm is hiring across the country (I believe 10 openings in Chattanooga). But Whitwell (pronounced "Whut-wull" by the locals) is a tiny little town with a mountain ridge and a time zone separating it from Chattanooga. I do know at least three people (one engineer, one doctor, one nanny) who live in the area and commute, though, so it's possible.

You mentioned dump-trucks; there are several quarries scattered around in the area, but I don't have any first-hand knowledge of any of them.

The time-zone thing affects some people, but others handle it easily. It's most pronounced if you have kids in Central Time schools but you work in Eastern Time.
