What about smaller communities right over the border in georgia? I was looking into employment at hutchenson. Any nice safe communities near there? I don't mind commuting as long as we live in a safe area.

Georgia has a state income tax, Tennessee does not. Gerogia is a tad more "red-neck" while Chattanooga is more progressive and city-like. The crime is concentrated in poorer areas, so choose the right neighborhood and you will be fine. I've been here 3 months a LOVE it.

I am currently living in Ft Lauderdale and a few years back I bought several acres in Beersheba Springs and cannot wait till I am able to move out there. That will be my retirement home. I love the small town atmosphere

That's where I moved from too. Not sure where Beersheba Springs is, but it's got to be better than Lauderdale.

I live in Chattanooga, and I don't worry about crime. Most of the violent crimes are isolated to a couple of areas in town. And you know when you're in one of those areas just by looking. There are no surprises. If you get mugged in one of these areas, it is certainly not by surprise.
