Moving to Chattanooga, where to go? (Knoxville, Cleveland: home, college, living in)

Hello, my fiance and I will be moving to the Chattanooga are next summer and are looking for a nice place to start a family.

We are currently living in Connecticut and therefore used to being within a 5 minute driving distance from shopping areas. I have family in the Knoxville area so I'd like to stay somewhere north-east of Chattanooga so we could be closer to family.

The size and age of the home does not matter to us (we aren't afraid of a fixer-upper!) But again, we'd like to be relatively closer to shopping districts, yet we'd also like at least an acre. We're looking to spend less than 200k.

Can anyone recommend a nice, safe, area to raise a family in the north eastern chattanooga area? My fiance is in the national guard and will have to work in chattanooga once a month, so we'd like to be within an hour to an hour and a half driving distance of there.

It's only an hour to hour and half to Knoxville from Chattanooga on I 75. Have you looked at Cleveland?

C.C. : I would 2nd the prior suggestion. North side of Cleveland should have the family values you asked about, also visiting KNoxville.
. Maybe even find 5 acre flat tracts of horse land along rt #58.
... Prior Rt #84 lower New York State resident.

My husband and I went up to Chattanooga for the fourth of july weekend. We really liked the Collegedale/Ootlewah area.

I like the East Brainerd or Ooltewah areas the best. Major shopping is close by at Hamiton Place Mall, and you are still close to downtown Chattanooga, about a 20-30 minute drive.
