The 10th-generation Impala is based on a stretched version of GM’s Epsilon II platform, which also underpins the Cadillac XTS and Buick LaCrosse. The car will be offered exclusively in front-wheel drive, and offer three engines to pair with a standard six-speed automatic transmission.
This definitely looks like a straight-forward competitor for the Taurus. Chevy will have my attention when they release the RWD SS or whatever it's going to be called based off the new Holden Commodore.
Same ole, same ole piece of crap.
Looks like any other car of this decade.
For just once I would love to see a new car that doesn't look like it was made at a cookie factory.
This car is about as exciting as watching paint dry, grass grow, and sitting through a baseball game.
Crap with a capital "C"
Bob.

You could say the same for some of the best selling cars in this country. Quality sells more than high flash styling.
I really believe the reason we can't get a true fashionable car any more is because the vehicle could not meet the federal EPA standards set for mpg. Thats the reason for all of the rounded edges and all new vehicles looking exactly alike.

Why, the 2014 Impala will be front not rear wheel drive?
Looks ok, but not "gorgeous". I'm sure in stripped down form the car will clutter rental car lots, but well equipped it might be a decent family vehicle. I had the chance to sit in the new Cadillac XTS when at the dealership earlier this week, and was pleasantly impressed. The only gripe I had was that it was FWD as opposed to RWD or AWD. The car looked fantastic on the outside, the interior was wicked plush. There were at least three different types of leather being used, which seemed to harmonize well with each other. The only thing that seemed somewhat odd was the perforated leather on the lower portion of the dash and door panels, that reminded me of a set of batting gloves...or cheap 1970's driving gloves. The other poor choice was the plastic choice on the touch screen nav/stereo system. The plastic was in a high gloss finish and showed fingerprints and smudges a little to well. Still not a bad looking car, but I think Cadillac needed to build this.
