From my point of view Cadillac finally has a car worthy of competing with the Europeans and Japanese. The new CTS is a quantum leap up in interior quality and style, the optional Recaros are a must, and that engine sure is sweet. The gearbox could use a couple more gears, or a transition to a dual-clutch box, but with stiffer CAFE regs on the way who knows if the CTS-V will be around long enough to get either. The exterior is a love it or hate it proposition, though I have come to like it more over time, and I think it has too much chrome. A blackout option would have been nice. Top Gear, surprisingly, liked the car, they're usually really harsh on American cars. The magnetic shock technology used in the V was licensed by Ferrari for its California, which I figure is a pretty good recommendation.
Put succinctly, the new CTS-V is simply one of the most brilliant cars GM has ever made, and a raging bargain to boot considering the market segment it competes in. The first CTS-V was a ground-rule double. This one is a home run. I just wish it weren't so goddamned ugly, but at the same time its looks are just so freakin' intimidating that I might be able to forgive it.
