Can anyone park at the Skokie Swift yellow line parking lot on Dempster? Does it ever get completely full?

Is there a vending machine there for L tickets?

Anyone can park at the Skokie Swift yellow line parking lot on Dempster. Parking used to be $1.00. It might still be. You park in a numbered spot. Then you go put your money in the machine after putting in the number. I've never seen it completely full, but it might be at times. There is a vending machine for L tickets and sometimes they have a staff member working there.

You can park there, but it's something like 4 dollars. You can park on a side street like a block away and walk if you're trying to avoid the cost of parking. There's a currency exchange across the street that sells All day passes for $5.75. Depending on how much you plan on using transit, it may be worth getting one

Thanks. I'll probably avoid parking on a city street since my car is void of any city sticker (Skokie, or other) at the moment.

And thanks for the tip about the day pass.

Not to mention there are parking restrictions on the street in Skokie.

Most Chicago suburbs have parking restrictions - even small semi-rural suburbs like Monee or University Park. But even larger more "urban" suburbs like Berwyn and Calumet City are NOTHING like most of the city.

I hate parking meters. This is why I ride Metra. The only time I ever go to the city in a car anymore is when I'm visiting my boy in Hyde Park because he's got free parking on his street. In business districts and University-related areas in Hyde Park, it's not free at all though.

The bottom line is: Parking in the city is a b****. Parking in the suburbs can be a hassle too but compared to the city, it's easy street.

My car does not have any city sticker whatsoever. Should be safe to park in the "L" parking lot though right? Just need to avoid parking on city streets, parks, etc?

I don't understand what your concerns are. Did you recently move to Skokie or do you live somewhere else? If you're a resident then go buy your city sticker. Problem solved. If you aren't a resident then you have nothing to worry about. You only need a city sticker if you're a resident. Cops will run your license plate and see you don't live in this town. As long as you make sure you're not violating any other parking laws, you can park in the street or in the L parking lot. But the city sticker should only be an issue in the municipality you reside.
