Default Other towns in Illinois also compare well

Aurora was a "contender". It compares very favorably with others on the list. It's population is very nearly 200,000 and it rate of job growth is very impressive:Best places to live 2012 - Comparison tool – Money Magazine

It too is partially in DuPage Co.

Chet, oh Chet!
You of all people promoting this "list". Not that it's not OK, but Bolingbrook?! Bolingbrook as a top 100 in the entire USA!?!? While towns that I think are a lot more appealing like Geneva, St. Charles, Glen Ellyn, Arlington Height, Park Ridge and MANY more are not on the list?
SILLY

Default I tend to take these things with a grain of salt too...

The facts of how the select towns have some "slicing & dicing" in 'em, if not outright subjectivity. The criteria include things like job growth, travel times, income vs housing and other metrics that really are hard to assess.

Personally I know a handful of folks that live in Bolingbrook and overall the improvements over the decades in the nicer areas are to be commended. The kinds of employers that are attracted to the area are different than those in more established towns, but more and more good paying firms do like the location. I know the WeatherTech car mats facility is state of the art and the profits of the firm are impressive. In the broad overview the region needs more firms willing to invest locally. I can go along with that mindset.

Yeah, I just don't agree with Bolingbrook at all being on this list. I think he charm factor is seriously lacking but apparently the list does not account for that...

I put these "best places to live" pieces in the same category as "best party schools" (usually some lunkhead laden Big 10 school) and "best towns for hot singles" (usually a "really?" place like Portland, OR). Great PR but of little value due to the subjectivity and large number of municipalities out there. Editorial laziness likely limits the candidates to the old tried and trues. I also think the term "best" is very subjective.

Default Hey, Berwyn made the "Contenders" list...

There is some encourging data regarding Berwyn. The median age is very youthful -- at 34.0 only towns with colleges typically do better. More than half adults have completed at least some college. There are over 10,000 resturants within 15 miles, 1,098 bars, 81 movie theatres, 183 libraries and 16 museums.

Cnn/Money Top Places to Live Compare Tool

All in all not too shabby!

Most states are the same. One large city dominates a state of smaller communities. Most states do have something that sets it apart from Christmas Cactus in the Southwest to ancient architecture in the Northeast. In Illinois, I would say there are probably far more interesting "contenders" than those mentioned.
