My husband has been living in Chicago for 7 months, we are trying to sell our house in OFallon, MO. Have been looking in Glen Ellyn area, but someone just mentioned Orland Park, i'm impressed at the homes you can find for under $525. All the ones i've looked at in the Glen Ellyn - Naperville thats under $500K are built over 30-40 years ago and need tons of updating. Looking for someone with knowledge of Orland Park area. The high school in Orland Park is in the top 100 for IL.

I live in Palos Hills and have a son who lives in Orland Park,it is a very nice area homes have come down in price as they have all over the country. So you can get a nice newer home for the money you want to spend. Taxes are high as all of cook county is. There are lot's of resturant's and shopping there .The school there is Sanburg but some parts of Orland are also Stagg and Andrew all three are very good. Most people want the Sanburg high school, they are all fine all in the same district 230 you can look that up on the computer,it will tell you all about the high schools. Try to check out Orland Park if you can get to Illinois to see if you like it or not. West of La Grange Road from 13100 south is real nice.

Having lived all over the Chicagoland area, Orland Park is a great suburb. Don't let people fool you that the only places to live are the northern and near western burbs. I now live out in the Fox Valley area which you should check out as well. Orland is "newer" so you might not get the tree lined streets in Glenn Ellyn at your price depending on size, but you do get newer which in my book always equals better due to your home becoming a money pit.

What do you wanna know about it? I live right near that high school you are speaking of (Carl Sandburg H.S.)

Default In regards to ANY numerical listing of Illinois public high schools...

The implication that any such listing is "top" as in "most desirable" is misguided at best and deceptive at worst.

Now in the context of what makes a school worth considering vs eliminating such a ranking may be useful to rule some schools as having performance issues, but broadening the question to ask whether such towns are performing well enough to merit consideration I would give much greater credence to the groupings done by US News.

The number of schools in Cook Co that measures up to those standards is shockingly dominated by CPS , though many of them are to be expected on the list as entrance is by exam, so of course these kids do well on AP tests -- http://education.usnews.rankingsandr...ty/detail+less

Now before there is some "war" going on please realize that I am not saying anything bad about Orland Park so much as I am saying there are big differences in the objective measures of how well its schools do in preparing students for college, similar data from DuPage Co -- http://education.usnews.rankingsandr...ty/detail+less

Orland is very nice. You may also like the surrounding towns of Tinley Park and Orland Hills.

No question I would recommend Orland Park to someone. Great suburb, easy to get around, and very good schools. I-57, I-80 and I-294 are nowhere from there.

Only problem I have with Orland is taxes.

To go with the other posters: Tinley Park, Orland Hills, Frankfort, western Matteson, Mokena, and New Lenox are awesome!

Taxes? You make it sound like the burbs you listed are steals compared to OP. For what you get in OP vs. TP or esp. Orland Hills, there is no comparison. I just wanna give a couple of random comparisons. Here is an Orland Park Hartz or Catchy Homes tri level. Notice the taxes paid. 13905 Thomas Dr, Orland Park, IL 60462 - Zillow $5100 for the year.

Now Tinley Park again this is the same model Hartz Home here. 8124 161st Pl, Tinley Park, IL 60477 - Zillow Notice taxes paid $ 5100 for the same year!

Also note that the TP home is smaller sq ft. wise and has a blacktop drive while the OP same model is bigger (Bigger rooms I'm guessing) and has a concrete drive, yet has lower taxes by some 30 bucks or so.

And here is that same Hartz or Catchy Homes model tri-level again only now it's in Orland Hills.. (as you all probably noticed, Hartz and Catchy built up most of Orland and Tinley Park to what it is today) http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/90.../4200677_zpid/ Notice the highest taxes of all so far?

And this one is the smallest out of what I've seen so far that I've posted yet the taxes are only a few hundred less per year. http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/90.../4200678_zpid/

How is Orland so much higher then?

Maybe I meant that the home I would more than likely purchase would have higher taxes. Not downing the entire town.
