And the costumes would be more outrageous.

It would be "Breakfast Club" for the 20-to-30-something set.

Yeah, here's Wicker Park today:

This was the summer fest. I moved to Logan Square (north of Wicker Park) in 2001, and since that time Wicker Park has pretty much finished its transformation from funky, artists and grungy to professional white kids who moved to Chicago after school. It's pretty yuppie today. I wouldn't call it "dangerous".

Yeah I'd say that Wicker Park is pretty damn gentrified by now. You might get your random riff raff here & there partying there on the weekends (most likely non-Wicker Park residents), but other than that I'm sure it's fine. How about up in Logan Square though? Up there there's still some spillover from the Humboldt Park area correct? How has the crime statistics been up in Logan this past year? Just curious, it's been a while since I've passed through Logan Square.

I just visited a good friend of mine who lives in Logan Square three days ago. Now, bear with me, it was my first time to Chicago and I took everyone's testimony at face value. I may not draw the neighborhood lines perfectly, but we had a drink at the Whirlaway Lounge near his apartment. I didn't see any criminal element about, but there were Mexican flags being raced up and down the street while the drivers honked their horns. I can only guess that's why the cops blocked that section of the street off? There may have been another reason, but I didn't see anything else happen that night.

My friend did mention that there was a murder four apartment buildings down from him six months ago. It was gang related. So, I guess it's not all gentrified yet, but moving in the right direction.

Last weekend was Mexican Independence Day, that's why you saw Mexican flags all over and car horns honking and what-not. If the cops had the street blocked off, it may have been an organized event such as a block party.
