Most of FLW's fame and certainly his considerable reputation was earned while working on visionary projects. His studio in Spring Green and the nearby school that he originally built for his inlaws (and now serves architectural students) is far different in character than his small home in the western suburbs of Chicago.

His Arizona studio, Taliesin West is generally acknowledged to be the place his ideas for masterpieces like the Guggenhiem and Johnson Wax offices were hatched. The curvilinear styles that he adapted for those buildings can clearly be seen in the home he built for his son --

Eye of the beholder I guess.

I've been in AZ and Phoenix several times.

FLW was a brilliant architect in the 19th century

Historical or not, it's an ugly structure.

Actually, FLW did very little work (compared to his mostly twentieth century career) in the 19th Century (the 1800s). An early house of his, near his more famed Cheney House, is generally considered to be built around 1896.

I hope this gets saved. It seems that despite a more watchful eye over historical sites that people will go to great lengths to make money.

Wow, is all that I can say. I find the house to be stunning. A masterful work of art! I would love to live there. The Phoenix backdrop kind of makes me miss Phoenix too. Thanks for posting this Chet.

FWIW: I am a former Chicagoan (mid century city ranch, mid century classic suburban split level), living in Atlanta suburbia (modern Georgian) after having lived in Northeast Mesa (Stucco & Tile desert 2 -story) and a longtime FLW and Prairie School fan .
