Perhaps those that preach fears about opium / heroin, as a product first cultivated in Asia, harbor similar views to people from that part of the globe...

In the suburbs, inclusion in high level and AP courses are primarily on merit! Going from 8th to 9th grade sometimes also requires recommendations from 8th grade teachers. Being denied AP classes because she is not rich and white is absurd. IF you are so worried about "the rich & elite" children attending New Trier, then perhaps it's not a good fit.

Have some of the posts been removed? I thought OP mentioned job(s) were in Skokie, but now I cannot find the post with that info. If the perceived "hoity-toityness of the North Shore" is an issue, look into Hersey or Prospect High Schools. Excellent schools with a bit more income level diversity.

That sounds a bit ridiculous.

I agree with nana, this is ridiculous, and a pointless comment.

Also, do you have data that "many" of the Asian kid's at New Tier are from "modest economic backgrounds"?

Evanston is not segregated in any meaningful sense. Northwest Evanston is mostly white but has a significant number of blacks and Asians. West-Central is integrated - about half black and half white. Farther west it's mostly black, but not entirely so. The lakefront (east of the tracks) is mostly white, but with a lot of students and yuppies of every extraction.

For better or for worse, Asians are perceived as smart and will have no trouble getting into high level courses.

I am not the person who made the comment but I don't need data to figure out that many of the Asian families on the west side of Wilmette are from modest economic backgrounds. I live here and it's obvious from the houses, cars, etc.

I'm curious, what's the definition of "modest"? I only asked for data, because Chet needs data for anything to be true.

Our good hosts have the data all nicely made into color coded maps: //www.city-data.com/city/Wilmette-Illinois.html

Portions of Wilmette closer to the Evanston have both higher percentages of Asians and lower median household incomes than portions of town closer to Kenilworth.

And you consider their incomes "modest"? I suppose anyone's income is "modest" relative to people that own/rent private jets for weekend getaways.
