I am looking for a contemporary church for a 26-year old near Oak Park. Preferably many young people my age, ELCA is nice too.

Why not look in Oak Park? There certainly are quite a lot of churches there. I am not sure which ones are good. Sometimes you can find reviews on yelp and other websites.

Also I do know Forest Park has ELCA churches but I don't know which are good. I'd look in Oak Park and Forest Park. There are also United Church of Christ or Congregational churches that are similar that are worth looking into.

This church is very open-minded, yet still Christian. Not so much "literalists" when it comes to Biblical stories of floods and magical tales of one-week universe creation, but very much rooted in mainline protestantism with those traditions. They also seem to attract some of the best musicians.

Hello --
I know I am not the only person out here in City-Data land that was unfamiliar with the acronym ELCA, in regard to a church denomination. This is what Wikipedia has to say:

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America is a mainline Protestant denomination headquartered in Chicago, Illinois. The ELCA officially came into existence on January 1, 1988, by the merging of three churches. Wikipedia

By the way, I agree with ToriaT. I would start first by checking churches close to where you live. There are many congregations right in Oak Park, and if you are a local resident, why not build roots right in your community? You may find one within walking distance!

There are basically two factions to Lutherans. (maybe more I am not an expert) One is ELCA, the other is Missouri Synod. ELCA is the more liberal mainline version and Missouri synod is conservative, more like Catholic. Anyway that's what I have been told.
