Thank you for everyone’s input on our relocation. I have narrowed the search down a bit. Looking at Elmhurst and Park Ridge. Any thoughts on those areas?

Both are pretty close to meeting your criteria. Depending how far from the interstate you are in Park Ridge, it'll add about 20 minutes to your commute to Hobart compared to going from Elmhurst to Hobart. Park Ridge is obviously closer to Des Plaines. For the most part Elmhurst seems to check all your boxes, but neither is really a bad choice.

Lots of super bad advice on here. Scrap the western suburbs. Go for the northwest suburbs, or even the outskirts of the city.
Look at Desplaines itself, or look at surrounding suburbs. Places like Park Ridge, Glenview, Mt. Prospect, Arlington Heights, Lincolnwood
.
In the city look at Norwood Park, Edison Park, Sauganash, Forest Glen, Edgebrook.

Some of the city neighborhoods are okay for getting to Hobart on a weekend morning in the time the OP wants, otherwise not ideal as the quickest no traffic route for those is taking the Kennedy or Edens to the Dan Ryan.

The OP probably wouldn't want to go any further north or west of Park Ridge to get to Hobart in the desired 1 hour. Even Park Ridge is pushing it a bit.

I was totally confused about the initial thoughts of Glen Ellyn followed by many of the northern/northwest suburbs that followed.

I still think Elmhurst checks the most boxes.

Still in search for a home to rent!
Didn’t like urban feel of Elmhurst or Park ridge
Liked Hinsdale and Western Springs and Glen Ellyn but very pricey
Wheaton was nice but a far commute to Des Plaines
Looking now at NW Suburbs. Barrington and Hoffman Estates
Any suggestions or comments appreciated
Need to move by Aug 1

These could be a 30-40 minute commute to Des Plaines for your husband. In bad traffic or bad weather it could take an hour.

This will not get you to Hobart in an hour either.

Barrington and Hoffman Estates have some differences. What made you decide to look into either of these compared to some other suburbs that haven't been mentioned? If you're going away from your Hobart commute requirements, why not consider any of the following, which would possibly be an equal or shorter work commute for your husband?*

-Glenview
-Northbrook
-Deerfield
-Buffalo Grove
-Riverwoods
-Lincolnshire

*None of these have a good commute to Hobart.

Honestly, if the OP has complained about Glen Ellyn being pricey, that rules out most of your list.

She's all over the map (no pun intended), so it's frankly difficult to help IMNSHO.

Yeah I've noticed. I'm just throwing darts at this point.
