Hi All!
My family is looking to move into a larger home. We are looking for a home that feeds into great schools, easy access to highways, and diversity. We love the idea of moving somewhere with a sense of community, as well. I love that Palatine has a downtown, but that isn’t a dealbreaker. We are looking into the west end of Elk Grove Village where the homes feed into Margaret Mead Jr High and Conant or the SE end of Palatine where the homes feed into Plum Grove Jr High and Fremd. Is one location more preferable than the other? Thanks in advance!

Describe what you mean by "diversity"...ethnic makeup, economics, what? I lived in both burbs, only on the east side of elk grove, which I suppose you're not looking at. In palatine, we had a house in plum grove estates, which feeds into the schools you're asking about. Plum grove estates is a real nice neighborhood, very scenic.

Hello,
Diversity meaning both those things- ethnic makeup and SES. We are looking on the west end of EGV because I like sd54. Is there another town I’m missing, that I should reconsider? Thank you!!

Hi Suburbanitemama, in regards to diversity in this parts, it's mainly various european ethnicities and some indians and pakistanis in the wealthier areas, as well less present other asian groups such as koreans and filipinos. In the less wealthy parts, you'll find a higher percentage of indians and pakistanis as well as hispanic (mainly mexican). But less wealthy areas are not "bad" around here, there's no ghetto in these parts.

As for other towns to look at in the area, Mount Prospect and Arlington Heights, and farther out Hoffman Estates and Schaumburg.

Can't speak for Elk Grove, but there are certainly some bad areas in Palatine around Rand and Dundee. Especially the apartments between Rand and Route 53 and along Baldwin going north of Dundee. But those areas do not go to Fremd and its feeder schools. They go to Palatine HS.

Yeh, that's what I mean, in the parts she's looking at. Anyways, up by Rand & Dundee ain't the ghetto either, just poorer so you have the usual increase in crime and decrease in how nice things look. But she's looking for social/economic diversity, so that's what that looks like.

Conant better than Fremd? Since when? Not in the last 50 years!
