You will be welcomed because Evanston is a city tolerant of all political views. Northwest Evanston is the most expensive, safest, and generally most conservative part of town, similar to Wilmette and the North Shore. Parts of Evanston are poor and mostly minority, but it doesn't sound like you're going to be living in those areas. It's a beautiful city, with much to do, and a short commute to Chicago. Most residents vote Democratic, but there are many more Republicans these days, and yes some Libertarians. You won't be alone.
