I think in the Chicago area, we have enough to do that commercial malls are not an integral part of our lifestyles.

The only "lifestyle center" I've ever seen was in "Logan's Run".

The first time I heard Lifestyle center I had no idea what they were describing. I kept thinking it was a senior citizen's center/activity hall type place. I don't know what lifestyle they are describing with this term. I guess they think you can park and shop and eat until the day runs out without moving your car?

I call them either "indoor mall" or "outdoor mall"... the grandaddy of them all being Oak Brook Mall. I used to like working there - very nice place.

Lifestyle center is a term used by marketing people to sell the development to the town.

Such people should be sterilized before they can reproduce more servile head-nodders.

heeeeellllllllloooooooo? You must not get it! You should have bowed down to the Numbskull and snapped some pix this instant! Now, why don't you head to the Northbrook Court "Lifestyle Center" and bring your camera!!!!

Actually, Old Orchard (in 1956) and the Harlem Irving Plaza (in 1956-it was a outdoor mall for about 20 years) pre-date Oak Brook Mall (in 1962).

But Oak Brook was not really much of a "mall" until the early 80's.

The HIP was from the start with 45 stores. It is the real "grandaddy" of them all in the Chicago area.
Oak Brook opended with 3 stores. It took decades for Oak Brook to have over 45 stores..

So do rich people trudge around Old Orchard in February snow and -20 temps or what? When my friend and i went there, we thought it was a traditional indoor mall... boy were we surprised.

Yes they do actually. You would be suprised. They keep the snow plowed well there as well as the walkways salted.

How can they be cold wearing all that fur?
