Geez Dr. Phil. All the OP did was ask if anyone could identify with the feeling.

So walking to a grocery store is more exiting than attending an air show, swimming at a waterpark, going to a casino?

No wonder youre miserable.

Sorry, I cant help you any more other than suggest an institution.

Says the newcomer from Madison. I think this statement is utterly ridiculous. Sure, Chicago is not New York. But it's far from "just a bunch of tall buildings", and you'd really have to live here to understand the rich complexity of Chicago's wonderful neighborhoods.

WTF is this? That's more ridiculous than the first statement. I often sit in my back yard enjoying the greenery and garden, and have yet to be robbed. The same goes for the bike paths. And you know, millions of others manage as well.

I get where he's coming from. If I walk down Broadway to the Jewel in East Lakeview I pass dozens of little shops and restaurants, and hundreds of people walking about or sitting in sidewalk cafes. It can be much more exciting than an air show. But we have one of those too every year, and maybe you've heard of it.

Ideally I could walk to the grocery store and go to the air show. I get where he's coming from also.

I am a little bored of Chicago, but I have lived here for many years and still love the city. I have lived in many parts of the country and this city is still among the best, but I am looking to try something else, something new.

The city is not better then the burbs, and the burbs are not better then the city. Simple-different strokes. We all have different ideals of what floats our boat. Life is too short to stay put then whine about it.

Sure, but you could make the argument that the suburbs are more boring than the city. And in many ways, this can be a good thing. It all depends on what you're looking for, and we often have to make compromises based on what's good for our families.

Theres more to do , more varied places to see and experience, great beaches nearby, Music series on the beach each week, much slower pace, homes are far cheaper, property taxes silly cheap by comparison, sunshine almost everyday, people far more respectful/friendly/law abiding...and i could go on . So..for myself, it has been a welcomed change ; jobs are scarce if you need to work still , but, its a great place to retire . I havent been thru a Florida summer yet but Ill take that over snow shovels and ice scrapers and being a Shut-in for half the year. Regards from the Sunshine State.
I've lived in FL for over 13 years now, and I'm moving back to the Chicago suburbs in three years. We did the Disney, beach, theme park, fishing, basically all the outdoorsy things you can do in Florida, and it became boring as well. I agree there's always something to do in FL, especially on weekends, but living specifically in Orlando on a daily basis has become harrowing and unpleasant, with the congestion and idiot inconsiderate drivers.

I agree, life in Chicago suburbs will probably be boring, but simple, and I like it that way. The panhandle of FL is probably a nice place to live and retire, any place that's near the coast in FL is. But after 13 years, I welcome the variety of changing seasons and even the cold, versus the heat and humidity the majority of the year you get in FL. The only real nice months in FL are the "winter" months, because of the escape from the snow, but other than that, it's just really unpleasanty hot and humid in FL. The FL sunshine is really overrated, and too much sun is not really good for you.

I look forward to the simple, boring life in the Chicago suburbs, and watching Bears games on local TV while sitting in a cool basement.

Because he just said everyone in his family has been robbed, and that's just part of the exciting city life. Are you only reading my responses to his, or did you read his first? BTW, I don't think 5 years in Chicagoland makes me a "newcomer" anymore, and I haven't lived in Madison since 1989. Are you one of those people who decides who else is qualified to have an opinion? I love Chicago, but I loved other places, too, it's not like I'm saying this place is boring, I am responding to his attitude that the only things that matter are in the gritty urban parts of Chicago.
