Now that I have moved away, I suspect that my mom my eventually follow. So I was wondering, if there are places near Itasca that are below $100K. This would be a small house or a condo for a single person with groceries and stores within a short distance. School district would not be an issue since all of my sibling are adults. Safety however is a concern. Is this even a possibility?

I notice that there are places around Roselle that seems to fit that bill. What about Wooddale or Addison or even Bensenville?

Thanks

Paul

Looks like some possibility in Addision, Glendale Heights, Roselle, Wooddale, and Bensenville. I know nothing about the towns though,

Bensenville has a bad rep, but there are some really nice parts of town. There is no airport noise like people say (at least enough noise to complain about). Wood Dale is nice, there are some bad parts like any town, same with Roselle. I don't think you are going to find a house or even a decent condo for under 100k though. I'd stay away from Addison or Glendale Heights. Elk Grove is also close, but now you are in Cook County, which I'd stay away from.

Addison or Bloomingdale might be a good fit.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find anything in that price range in DuPage County... even in this depressed state of the real estate market.

My mom and I found some condominiums in Elk Grove Village for under $100,000; I'm not sure if they're even on the market still, or have risen in price since we looked some months ago.
I've lived in Elk Grove for most of my life, and it's a very safe, good town that I would recommend.

I don't recommend Addison. I honestly wouldn't want my mom living there by herself, as it's not as safe or as appealing for the price as other towns like Roselle, Bloomingdale, or Glendale Heights.
If you can, maybe Schaumburg by a slim chance offers $100,000 or below condominiums.

If you are looking for a condo for your mom, then you and I are in the same boat: my mom is also looking for some dwellings that are affordable and safe.
I recommend adding the northern suburbs, like Palatine, Arlington Heights, Rolling Meadows, and so on, to your list for condominiums.
Off the top of my head, I do not know if there are readily-available $100,000 or below dwellings.
