i am being transfered to the city of west Chicago next month (jan), i wont be moving all my stuff up until spring or summer. that will give me time to learn the area and find a house. until then, i need a place to stay!

im trying to find something very simple, heck a room with a bed shower and microwave would work for me. id like something like a hotel room, but im not liking the 50 bucks a night thing, for that kind of money i could just rent an apartment.

I will be in and out a lot, gone for week at a time ect. anyone have any ideas? thanks

It is going to be really hard to find a motel room (that is not a craphole) for under $50 a night.

Perhaps look into renting a household room. Try looking here craigslist classifieds

If you have a car and don't mind commuting a long distance to West Chicago, you might be able to get a room at one of the YMCA's for about $500 a month.

Long shot, but Fermi Lab is sorta on the Batavia / West Chicago border. They have bulletin boards for temporary housing situations (as lots of staff there are in places like CERN to help start up their collider or off a some university for an extended period) and MAYBE you could find something through that, but I have not been out there in a while and I am not sure if that will work ... Try getting a room thru Priceline.com. A few years ago I was in the same situation and I would get a room thru priceline for a daily rate of 25 dollars a night for 2 weeks at a time. The desk clerk offered me the same rate without going thru priceline. I stayed at Homestead Suites in Oakbrook...it was very clean and safe and the staff was superb. At least if you go thru priceline starting at a low low price you will come out much cheaper.

Agree completely.

Using Priceline, I have been able to get rooms at the Extended Stay America or Homestead Suites for $25-30/ night in the Oakbrook, Lombard, and Westmont areas. These hotels are not high-end Marriotts BUT they do include a small kitchenette with a full refrigerator and a stove and include full cable. One of the advantages of these places is that your room price includes phone, cable, utilities and you are not living in a room in someone else's house.

You will also find that there are many hotels throughout the area (3-4*) that can be had for the MID-$30s per night. See this website:

Thanks...I was completely satisfied with my stay @ Homestead. I had all the comforts of home without spending an arm and a leg. I could cook, iron, go downstairs and wash....get mail and everything else. Being close to the mall was really a treat.

The Homesteads in Lombard and Oakbrook are really EXCELLENT properties. My wife and I stay there when we have a 6 am flight out of Midway Airport.

Nationwide, I cannot honestly say that I would be excited to get a Homestead property as a lot of them are run down.

The last time I stayed at the Homestead on Pasquinelli Rd., I took the METRA rail to the Hinsdale station. I gave teh address to the cabbie. He said that he knew where I was going as he LIVED there.

BTW, to the OP, if you stay in a hotel for greater than 30 days, Illinois considers you a renter and you should receive a refund of the hotel tax. You will get charged for tax each day BUT they refund it after 30 days.
