What a bigoted load of crap. Do you feel better now having posted this garbage?

I read stories every day of people of all types of race, religion or gender getting a light sentencing for a crime they committed. Just because you found one article that may not even be totally factual in the punishment these boys may have received doesn't make it always true.

What the heck is the point of your title? How do you know the ethnicity of the youths involved? What's the relevance?

Me thinks you know little about Chicago and the area.

I'll say it: if these four people were black, they would be charged with felonies, but because they are Jews, they are charged with misdemeaners - this shows a blatant double standard of prosecution.

That's how an outsider might look at it...

If you can find a perfectly parallel situation where black teenagers did the exact same thing in Evanston but were charged differently, please share. Otherwise this is just speculation.

Of couse, that's the point.

You can leave out the "black" correlation and try it this way: based on the account of the attack (described in the OP's link), why did the procecutor choose to charge these four adults with misdemeanors and not felonies?

Well perhaps because this was each of the suspects first offense?

And battery is not an automatic felony?

I assume the kid attacked was not hurt enough for the crime to be considered Aggravated Battery (which is a Class 3 felony) thus prosecutors were left with no choice but to charge as a Battery-Class A misdemeanor.

Class A misdemeanor is the most serious misdemeanor charge. You can spend up to 364 days in jail, receive up to a $2,500 fine and/or up to 2 years of probation or conditional discharge.

See. Now I am speculating just like you are.

Why don't you call up the states attorney's office and ask them yourself? Brush up on reading Illinois law too while you are at it.

So, four drunken adults violently attack a person and injure him to the point of hospitalization - and those acts are not felonies...

Sure.
