I can only imagine the charges if the kids involved were named "Tyrone Pearson" as opposed to "Gabriel Siegel."

First beer syndrome. Don't make it out to be more than it is.

"The four Evanston teens fled when two friends of the victim got out of the car.." Lol. Gangsta.

But what's with your pointless "Tyrone Pearson" remark? The charges would be the same- you know good and well. Yeah they could pull an extensive rap sheet on Tyrone and up the ante. Or he could get bottom of the barrel legal reps as compared to Gabriel and get shafted in plea/court. But those are other matters.

Amen to that. The ONLY reason these kids weren't charged with a felony like everyone else in this country would have been was probably because of very expensive laywers.

This incident probably happens numerous times every day on the south and west sides of the city and it's never even thought about as a news story. The Trib has a huge picture and it's the top story.

A girl gets hit by a car on the north side - top story for 3 days. A girl gets hit on the south side - might be mentioned somewhere in a 3 sentence article.

If everyone attacked someone and broke their nose after their first beer, beer would be illegal.

Dragging a kid out of a car and mangling his face is a big deal. Beer or no beer, these kids are animals. The biggest favor their parents could do for them is not a fancy lawyer, it's some jail time.

Getting them off the hook diminishes the brutality of their act.

Thank god there wasn't a girl involved. It might have turned out differently- as in gang rape.
You are right, this was needlessly brutal.
