It says you have to be available the whole week. Does that mean you will need to show up all 5 days? Or does anyone get cut before that?
Any way to get out of it?
Hate to be a dead beat, but husband already served on a murder trial, is finally working a full week's work and now is called for jury duty. Need that salary to pay high Will County property tax.

If you're not picked to be part of a jury pool on the day you show up, that's usually it, you're done.

ImaloneJill: Each situation is different. You need to show up whenever they have dictated. They will give you instructions as to how to proceed. You may be told prior/at that time that you do not need to physically show at the courthouse .. or you may be told that you need to check online mid-day to see if you need to go in during the afternoon session. Each day you are not sure what you will hear or need to do until you get informed via internet ... or if you will be required to appear all week. As I said earlier, they instruct you as you go along. It's disruptive for work, to say the least. Best of luck to you. Totally understand your concerns about lost income.

It is rare that you would have to go a whole week. If you have a conflict that particular week you can usually get it postponed. I was lucky enough to get called for a week where Monday was a government holiday, so I had to show up noon Tuesday, morning Wednesday, then I was done.

Thanks to all!
At least in Cook County, unless you are picked for a jury, you only have to go one day.
This being available all week is brutal.

Just reposting this for anyone who lives in Will County that gets called. My husband went today and phoned at lunch to cuss me out (lol, I twisted his arm to register to vote in Will County for the pres. election and now he blames me for this).
It IS an all week thing. There is a pool of about 300 people that they keep calling names for interviews and trials. It does not matter if you are called for a trial-if the trial ends before the week is over, you go back to the pool of jurors. 9 am until 4:30 pm Mon-Fri. The reason you go all week is because the population of Will County is 700,000 as opposed to Cook County's 3 million to draw from. This is what he was told.
Anyway, no matter how you cut it, 5 days of sitting around doing nothing and getting paid 10 bucks a day is a bummer. But, he has been told, it is his civic duty.
Edit: well, he came home at 3, so the whole "you won't get out before 4" was wrong. Maybe the 5 day thing is just a scare, too.
