And now Lou is done after today's game, apparently so he can tend to his ailing mom. While I have no doubt that's his primary motivation, I suspect he's relieved that it gives him the opportunity to gracefully bow out instead of having to endure the rest of the season as captain of this misery cruise. I'm kinda surprised he's made it this far.

They are, apparently, less than the sum of their parts.

I agree. Lou isn't the genius who brought in Milton Bradley, gave Soriano a bulletproof contract regardless of how poorly he does, traded Derosa, etc., etc.

We need some housecleaning much higher up the food chain.

otoh, this provided some comic relief to my lunch hour:

Uncle Lou wised up, how many a**kickings can a proud manager like him possibly bear to watch? He should have received hazardous duty pay just to watch the AAA middle relief corps he was provided.

Unreal, the Cubs give the manger job to Quade. I do not hate the guy, but it is time for a new direction. Sadly the Cubs lose Sandberg in the process. WTF. I think I cam going to boycott all of next year.

"Sandberg said Hendry told him it came down to a "gut feeling’’ between him and Quade in the final decision."

Ok Hendry-if the team sucks next year you should be GONE. Call it a GUT feeling.

It seems like giving the job to Sandberg would be fairly low risk. I didn't foresee the Cubs going anywhere in the next couple of years anyhow, so why not give Rhyno a shot? Clearly, he has excellent management potential.

Hendry should be tarred, feathered, and sent out of town on a boxcar.

Great way to alienate the Cubs fan base, Jim. Whatta maroon...

Sandberg wasn't a guarantee to be successful. Neither is Quade. So, please step away from the ledge. Time will tell if he's the next excellent manger or if it's Jim Essian/Bruce Kimm all over again. To me, Joe Girardi was the only proven candidate and I highly doubt he leaves NY for Cubs.
