"Port to another state?" What does that even mean?

The answer is Social Secuirty and Medicare goes with your mother. It will take close to 30 days to transfer SS from IL to Florida.

Section 8 does not leave Illinois. It is applied for in each state in the county/parish/township where you move just as one does to apply for help with other local services such as utlities, homemaker and home nursing care etc.. Not all landlords accept section 8. Take PROOF of all services she currently receives. It will help smooth the transition between state services.

Oxygen and inhalation therapy equiment is different. As long as a National Privider such as Lincare or Apria is involved, equipment such as a concentrator and nebulizer can be moved from state to state. The company must be notified. However, if the equipment provider is local and not national you may NOT move the equipment out of state. You will do well to purchase extra prescription drugs before you leave and have your prescriptions with you unless you use a national pharmacy like CVS, Walmart or Walgreens. You will need a written prescription for Oxygen with the liter flow plainly stated, and for Nebulizer drugs plainly stated. .

The bottom line is you will need enough money to live on and buy medicines until the SS check is deposited locally. If you do not have that on hand, it will be a difficult move.
