I don't get to leave the city, and because I'm so tired of the CTA during the work week, I rarely use it during the weekend. I quite often stay within my neighborhood and the surrounding area. It gets old fast. Just to attend the movies, or visit a bakery can be a big to-do. I do try to travel outside of the state often though.
You know, you can take the Metra to various 'burbs, like LaGrange, Downers, Naperville, Riverside, Oak Park, etc.... Weekend rates are $7 for a weekend pass, so if you want to return or go somewhere else during the same weekend, you're covered. There are some great restaurants and stores off the Metra in the above mentioned 'burbs. I even saw a suburban pub crawl going on when we went to LaGrange to hang w/the kids.
