There are plenty of young people, black and white, who would LOVE to have those jobs that "we don't want to do" if they were given the offer. You know, the unemployed people that Humboldt1 speaks down on. If an employer hires an illegal, they don't even have to pay them $8.25 an hour. You know, the wage that those of us with an "entitlement complex" expect to earn. And the wage that Humboldt1 would put a bullet though his head if he earned. He believes that he is entitled to his fancy house and yuppie lifestyle. And then he has the NERVE to use the word "entitled" to describe low-wage earners.

For the record, with the exception of the month I was unemployed, I've worked for five years in a field that appears to be dominated by Hispanic males (maintenance janitorial). I've only been out of high school for six years. I currently work full time and earn more than minimum wage.

Definitely sounds like the burbs are getting worse.
I know for sure that where I used to live
in Des Plaines has taken a turn for the worse.
South Des Plaines is looking bad, especially
around Oakton/Touhy

How do you think the new casino will affect this trend?

No one is saying that formerly middle class areas improve when their population becomes hispanic. Areas like cragin/hermosa have clearly gotten worse in recent years.

Again, I am not debating illegal immigration. I am just saying these areas are better with illegal or legal low-income hispanics than low-income blacks on the west side of Chicago.

Allen,

You have to admit that low-income black areas improve when hispanics move in.

Hispanics have their own groceries and like doing business with people who speak their language. The greeks and italians have figured this out (cermak produce, tony's, pete's) and mexicans as well (carniceria jimenez).

Urza,

I too have worked manual labor. Apart from school, I spent my entire life until 24 working manual labor (1 year full-time farming and 1 year full-time in construction).

In construction I actually did jobs that few people physically would be able to do. At 6'2, 185lbs, I was one of the smaller guys on the crew I ran (we did concrete and framing). I worked for 11 and 12 dollars/hr non-union in both jobs. Farming was physically demanding but nothing like what I saw in construction.

Meh, I knew what I was getting into when I moved into "Rolling Ghettos". I don't get along great with the parents and needed my own space and cheap apartment, with of course a highway to get me to my job at O'hare.

This type of stuff does not occur often, but from what I can gather from long time Rolling Meadows residents they feel the influx of illegals has not helped the town.

Humboldt, Blacks do not have there own language and black americans are just as american as whites. There are black owned businesses in middle income black areas. I believe Magic Johnson owns alot of the movie theaters and starbucks coffees in middle income black areas. But aside from the great black owned restaurants, middle income blacks normally want to see the same kind of high standard amenities that whites also want to see in there areas. A Jewels Grocery store, bestbuy, starbucks cofee, chase bank, etc.

Humbodlt,

What I think is when any law abiding group moves into an area and follows the rules of good citizenship the area either maintains status quo or it improves.

Converse;y when a group moves into an area and trashs it and ignores public law they are a liability and all the PR in the world can't change that moment in time nor the facts.

Water seeks its own level and the animals that roam freely in nature seek their own kind. The same thing happens to people in cities all over the world. It is very unlikely a well-heeled upper class couple with children will move into a low-class neighborhhod with thoughts of improving it. Won't happen; they will move into an area with other upper class families with similar values.

Illegal = criminal. It makes no difference how well-meaning or hard working they are, or whether or not they improve a neighborhood. They violated the law; they are criminals. I do not knowingly or willingly aid or abet criminal activity of any stripe.

Standing up and employing citizens and not looking for illegal cheap labor to exploit, Linicx, I would buy you a drink if I could. But pay day is not until Friday.

Linicx and Allen,

Humboldt Park has clearly improved in areas where hispanic have displaced poor blacks.

I will agree that middle income areas like Rolling Meadows have been hurt by illegal immigrants.

I know that Panera well at Wilke and Algonquin. There are a lot of problems just west of there on algonquin by the apartment complexes. There are literally 4-6 taxi mex cabs at anytime waiting on rides just off of wilke north of algonquin. I am not disputing middle class areas have been adversely effected by illegal immigration.

What I am arguing is that low-income black areas on the west side of Chicago have improved as low-income hispanics (many illegal) have moved in.

Calling the wife of my girlfriends brother is downright offensive. This woman has been married to an american citizen for 7 years and has 5 year old and 1 year old. She came here with her parents when she was 13 years old and is now 27 years old. She speaks fluent english and works in a doctors office.

Her only crime is coming with her parents from mexico 14 years ago. She is not a criminal in the same way as a person who deals drugs or kills people. She pays taxes and contributes to society. Good luck trying to deport a "criminal" like her.

Linicx,

Are you suggesting that we should deport this woman?

You probably consider people who speed "criminals" as well.

I would much rather see a neighborhood full of "criminals" that contribute to society than "non-criminal" welfare class who do not.
