There's so much going on in and around the city that I never hear about. Hoped we could all pitch in and maybe learn more of what Chicago has to offer.

What are some of your favorite neighborhood festivals or events in and around Chicago? Whether it's centered around food, beer, wine, art, music, movies in the park etc... tell us why it's on your summer highlight reel.

I like to catch Jazzin' At The Shedd once a summer. It's a weekly concert series at Shedd Aquarium, in the South Loop. I always enjoy a chance to hear live music. It's especially nice when the sun wanes in the evening. You can stay inside to enjoy the exhibits then meander outdoors to the lakefront. At the end of the evening, you're positioned for a clear view of the Navy Pier fireworks.

I wouldn't call it a "neighborhood" festival, but Lollapalooza is the thing I look most forward too every single year.

German American Fest, Lincoln Square. It's in the second week of September.

If you like good beer and good food, it would behoove you to be there. And, what ladies don't enjoy being serenaded by a dude with an accordian wearing lederhosen?

Millennium Park has outdoor concerts in the summer at the Pritzker Pavilion. Some of them are free or at least used to be. It's a pretty cool place to see live music.

Also, keep an eye on metromix for all the upcoming street fests in the spring/summer/fall. There a TON of them. We like the smaller neighborhood fests like Wicker Park Fest and West Fest and Renegade Craft Fair...Pitchfork Fest used to be our favorite music fest but is slowly turning into a corporate money making machine...so sad. Hope all this helps!

Heard that. Lolla and Pitchfork are my 2 favorite things to do in the summer.

Yeah Pitchfork's a good time too. I try to get as much live outdoor music in as possible over the summer.

Looks cool. I'll have to check it out. You can do Polish on the 3rd through the 6th, and then do German the next weekend. I love Chicago.

Yup same thing in Milwaukee, ton of ethnic festivals with great food and pretty girls and great beer!

MKE Festivals: the City of Festivals--Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA

Just a question, do other cities have a lot of ethnic festivals? or is it mainly the east coast and the upper Midwest?

^ From what I've seen, Chicago has tons, St. Louis has a good amount and KC has almost none. They also have very few of the little neighborhood festivals that I loved in Chicago. Sad face.
