I guess so according to OnMilwaukee, Jsonline, Milwaukee Magazine and other Milwaukee blogs, papers and online journals. I have been told that many Chicagoans have come up to Milwaukee to open bars, restaurants, hotels, apartments and condo buildings such as Lafayette Place on the east side. I don't know if this is true or is it MKE trying to toot it's own horn a little bit by saying "even people from Chicago come up here a lot". I am not ripping on my hometown just rather asking if what I am being told all the time is true. I do see a ton of IL plates and surprisingly all my neighbors in my last two buildings are all from Chicago and have moved here in the last 10 years, I lived in a 8 unit and 5 unit building so the numbers are not that large but still odd nonetheless. I know some Chicagoans come up here for various ethnic fests and Summerfest but do many people say "hey lets go up to Milwaukee for the night or weekend? I have been told that many buy second homes up here but that seems a stretch. It would be nice if people came up to MKE for touristy reasons but I just think when you mention Milwaukee in Chicago most people think of the street that runs for miles in a northwest/southeast direction.

We have a family membership to Discovery World, but we are pretty much in the middle between MKE and Chicago so it's less of a drive for us. We also fly from Mitchell whenever possible, so much easier (and cheaper) than O'Hare.

Yeah I just got done using Fast Park $5 a day, I don't know what it is at MDW or ORD but I would bet it's a lot more than $5 a day at a remote lot.

Indeed we do. And I don't even consider it a road trip; it's just all in the neighborhood. Going to a Cub-Brewer game at Miller Park is a home game for us. Not insultingly because Cub fans and Chicagoans dominate the fans, but because we are, as I noted, "just all in the neighborhood."

That's why playing the slots at Pottawatomi is no more a road trip for us than playing them in Elgin or East Chicago.

As for the longer time stretches, the vacations.....they're there, too. A large percentage of the warehouse conversions to lofts on the waterfront in the Old Third Ward/Walkers Point area are owned by Chicagoans who appreciate that slip in the water for their boat and almost immediate access to Lake Michigan.

C'mon folks, Chicago and Milwaukee have been filling in the spaces between them along the lakefront for seemingly forever. The two are becoming one. On giant megalopolisis on the southwest shores of Lake Michigan.

No, we're not quite what Minneapolis is to St. Paul, Dallas to Fort Worth, Baltimore to Washington, Tampa to St. Pete, or San Francisco to Oakland (to San Jose).

But we're getting there. Just as LA and San Diego are doing the same.

I've been to Milwaukee a handful of times over the last year. My wife seems to really like it, and I've been starting to research other cool things beyond the basic stuff to do.

I have been planning on a visit to pay my respects to the original beer slide from County Stadium for years, hoping for later this summer.

Is this Lakefront Brewery where it is?

Lakefront Brewery - Two Beer Dudes

There is a beer filling station half way through the tour in which you can get a refill as they really believe in the patrons enjoying the fruits of their labors. Right next to this area is the mug from County Stadium in which Barney the Brewer would slide into. The owners had also purchased the slide and had it installed in the brewery. Unfortunately it was taken down after one inebriated person got hurt on the slide. That would be fun after a few beers, too bad. The Brewers tried to buy the slide back at one point but were refused by the owner since he enjoyed watching drunk people slide down it. Of course this was before the legal action.
