Los Angeles went from 1,092 homicides in 1992, to 297 homicides in 2010, the lowest since 1967...

New York City went from 2,245 homicides in 1990, to 400 homicides in 2009...

Chicago's homicide rate was in 1974 with 970 homicides and again in 1992 with 943 homicides... In 2009 Chicago had 458 homicides...

I dont think its outta control....

Like it or not, statistics make it clear that some groups are more law-abiding than others. Especially with regard to *violent* crime.
I agree, americas are very violent toward each other. Our government shows a little too much mercy to bad people instead of just destroying them asap.

I believe the lowest NYC's gotten is 500, not 400. Chicago had 435 last year and we're currently 30+ murders below out YTD from last year.

To answer the question:

No, Chicago's violence is not out of control. Compared to prior years it's probably quite the opposite - at least anytime since the early to mid 1960's.

Yep, and most other crimes are down as well. A few media grabbing crimes don't mean all that much.

it use to be way worse. then they started destroying the projects. and the area got alot more safer. especially the north side since cabrini- green was destroyed.
