It takes a professional to get rid of bed bugs. Under a specific set of circumstances your landlord is required by the City of Chicago to eradicat the pests. It looks like you can email this attorney for advice. The Chicago landlord/tennant laws are here too. Chicago Landlord Tenant Law Section 070

The only thing I signed was for paying a 50 dollar credit check fee and first month's rent that acted as a holding fee.

As I stated in my original post, I have not signed the lease yet.

been interested in this thread and it seems to me these (experts)
will hold your first months rent (holding fee)

I can only imagine what is in that contract but there probably is a clause that conforms to code
which basically would state if there is a problem with rodents bugs etc the landlord would have the option or capacity to cure

this would put you in a bad positon because who wants to rent a place that has been infested
please follow up on this when you get some solutions , i would be very curious on how this works out for you- sorry you have had to have this experience in a slow economy as most people are just squeaking by these days .... good luck to you

There's BedBugRegistry.com, but I don't know if that's what you're referring to.

Yeah I used that website, I checked before I signed the holding agreement and then I happened to refresh it when I got home that afternoon and a new one had just be posted. If I had only waited a few hours to go I would have seen the new posting.

For those who are interested in my sage: I called the management company today and they admitted to me that they had bedbugs in that specific building in the past, but wouldn't say if they had a new, recent outbreak. I went through an apartment finder to find the studio and the finder service supposedly has my money. I will try again tomorrow to make progress on getting my money back.

Default Bedbug Aversion

It could end up costing you a lot more than $830 to get rid of bed bugs. But I'm sure there would be some way to get your money back now, given the evidence of bed bugs.
