We are visiting town and staying in the No Michigan ave area. What are some good restaurants (reasonable, not too expensive) and what are some things to do while in town? We are scheduling a trip to AIC. But other than shopping? We are 40-somethings. Thanks!

How many days?

What is "reasonable" for a meal in your opinion? What kind of food do you enjoy? How adventurous are you?

What do you consider reasonable for both lunch and dinner exactly?

As far as things to do - AIC is real nice. But other things?

- Architectural Boat Tour: 90 minutes offered by a few companies (Wendella, Chicago Architectural Foundation, etc). Goes through the river while you get a history of all the buildings. Wendella even has one tour that goes out to the lake. You can buy tickets online..I think Wendella is maybe $24/person and CAF is $30/person or so.

- Millennium Park and Grant Park (right next to AIC).

- If you are into architecture at all, go north of Division street from Michigan Ave/Lake Shore Drive area. Lot of old mansions in that area (walk north and west through the area) including the original Playboy Mansion.

- Broadway shows, if you're into that. Jersey Boys just started up again.

- Museum Campus: Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium.

- Museum of Science and Industry

- Signature Lounge at the John Hancock Tower - 95th and 96th floors.
- Sears Tower (I mean WIllis) Skydeck

Now, if you're looking for any bars/lounges too, I'm sure we could also assist in that..

For restaurants, look at LTHforum. I hear the Purple Pig is highly recommended.

Greek Town is fun and the large, bustling, reasonably priced Greek Islands is my favorite restaurant. They have a website and you don't need a reservation (but they get busy so arrive early for dinner or you may have to wait a touch). It is only about a 7 minute cab ride from N. Michigan Ave.

Purple Pig is great (when you can get in), but the plates are smaller like Tapas, and the price will likely add up and might not be reasonable for a full meal for the OP (no idea of the OP's price ranges though).

Thanks for all the suggestions! ... 3 days. Eating and drinking - up for just about anything. We know Chicago is expensive but we are "casual"... 5 star french restaurants will not be for us.
