Thank you. I still hang around on City-data forums because the political wackos generally don't infiltrate normal forums with their messages of hate. Leper colony is an excellent description.

Yup! Brady didn't need to continue "solidifying the base".

The Politics and Other Controversies forum is pretty toxic; if you vent too much, it's a good way to get banned for a while..

They enjoy their Conservative ideals over there.

Amen to that. I didn't like any of this year's crop of Republican Presidential candidates except for Ron Paul, and sadly, he never stood a chance.

Actually, I find most Illinois republicans to be pretty moderate on social issues compared to their counterparts in more conservative parts of the country.

Default Northwest Side Republican?

Trying to geographically segment Republican vs. Democrat in Chicago by tabbing this side of the city as more middle-class or suburban looking than another side doesn't really play out neatly.

Norwood Park, Sauganash, Edison Park, etc. on the NW Side are very-middle-class bedroom communities (Norwood Park is a corporate headquarters center near O'Hare airport) that you might suspect would be Republican affiliated. In fact, they may well be conservative in their thinking, but Chicago is overwhelmingly Democratic. There may be Republicans living here, but these communities are known for attracting families of City of Chicago employees (most of whom are Democrats) whose main purpose is to fulfill residency requirements for city employees while they enjoy the benefits of nearly-suburban living.
