living in the burbs, i like to grocery shop at Super Walmart, because frozen dinners (marie callendars $2.50 vs $4.69) and frozen chicken breasts ($6 vs $13+) are phenomenally cheap, especially compared to Jewel.

But i see there are no walmarts in the city. is there one close by? i dont mind getting a cooler to transport my stuff home.

i really dont want to shop at Jewel, however (except for steaks, jewel has better steaks than Super Walmart).

Thanks.

Beats me. Give them a call and ask. Fair warning, however, its in a neighborhood that can be charitably described as "low-rent urban", although the store itself is brand new and nice enough the one time I went. A lot of Targets also have grocery sections.

the Walmart on North Ave sells some groceries like frozen goods and typical shelf stuff, but no fresh produce or meats. i don't know of any Target that sells fresh produce and meats (most just sell frozen foods and non-perishables) but recently, the Target on Elston near Diversey has been undergoing some construction and I was told they are adding a larger grocery section that may include more fresh items

Why can't you just go on Wal Mart's website and look for supercenters??!?

It says the nearest one to the city is in County Club Hills, around 21 miles southwest of downtown.

There are others further out on the southwest, south and southeast sides of the metro. There's also some way out west in Auora, and up near the Wisconsin border.

And if you live the suburbs, why do you care if there is a Wal Mart in the city?
