Hi there,

i am looking up some spots to view the Air & Water this weekend. Since i am not really into boats, but very interested in the airplanes i was wondering if you could get a good view off the W Hotel (right next to Navy Pier). I don't know where the flightpaths go along so if anyone who attended the A&W the last years can give me an insight if it is worth it?
Castaways Rooftop is sold out already and i am not really into crowded space with a million people. Thats why i'm looking up for events to watch it.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Call the hotel and ask?

The observation deck of the John Hancock Building would provide a panoramic view unmatched, I'm thinking. And if the W has a rooftop bar, an outdoor rooftop bar, then that would be good, too. But the Hancock Observatory would be my choice if I was looking for this. Also, if you like the beach, there's an outdoor restaurant at North Avenue Beach selling packages for the afteroon(s). I often, years past, took my blanket and sat at the Fullerton Ave. beach and watched the aircraft fly overhead. Lots of choices along the lakefront.

He mentioned Castaways in his post.

I love the Hancock simply because it is easy to get up there and is never really too crowded.

And yes, the best advice is to call the hotel and ask, also remember that you can always go into any hotel and see rooms, best time to do that is usually on a sunday or early in the week.

oh i think i have not written that clearly. There is an event hosted at the 7th Floor Wet Deck of the W for the Air & Water. So i am not booking a hotel room but be on their terrace.
I figure they would not offer it if there is not enough view from their terrace.
