Me and the wife relocated from STL and decided Lakeview was too far south for our commute to the northern suburbs for work. We are actually right on the border of Uptown and Edgewater and why I have seen the shady element, really nothing out of the norm for a major diverse city neighborhood. Keep in mind we moved here last September, so we have yet to experience the summer but I think its pretty safe.

Default Hmm, did you consider Lincoln Square?

Unless your work is in a town directly on Lake Michigan I would think commute is better from Lincoln Square not to mention that safety and local amenities are better when compared to even the nicest spots in Uptown or Edgewater...

I hope the summer does not see extraordinary levels of violence, the seasonal shifts have been an issue in past years.

it seems nicest on Sheridan and/or on Marine rather than a couple blocks over.

I agree with another post---depends on your cup of tea. You'll get more space than you would Lakeview. Lakeview --generally-- is nicer and is a little more 'hip' than Edgewater. If you're younger and want more things to do---Lakeview. If you want more space, vintage type building, and a little less expensive---Edgewater. I'd stay clear of Uptown. I still think Uptown is bad----which is too bad as you can't beat the location.
