NYC has gone through a lot more gentrification. Chicago's crime rate would be a lot higher if all those gentrified neighborhoods never gentrified.

It is really poverty more than anything. Most of the dangerous neighborhoods in Chicago have been emptying out for decades and they still have very high crime. The one constant amongst those neighborhoods is poverty. We even have high crime suburbs nowadays that aren't dense at all.

Why if you are the father of a nation -that your concern would be more intense for a 1000 people gassed in Syria? Chicago over time has MORE fatalities...why spend a billion bucks in Syria...Why not clean up your own house and start with the cleaning up of Chicago...? What an embarrassment. It reminds me of a drunken gambling father who neglects his own family.

What??!! So, the President is supposed to run the CPD? Send in the National Guard? It was posted upthread (and it's true) that New Orleans has a much higher murder RATE than Chicago. So does Detroit. So do a bunch of smaller cities.

Why put the responsibility of a nation, on something that only a biological Father who is the only one responsibility for his kids can do. Some young black men simply are emotional immature and usually grew up with an orphan mentality in a Single home with the mother. Young kid that confuses certain media and music images with reality will equal an adult who cannot make emotional whole decisions for a stable healthy community. What Chicago and all major inner cities need a revival of black fathers to return home and be stable force in the homes. If people feel terrorize in there own neighborhood, that seems more of a national treat than some guy in the Middle East.

I was thinking the same thing. I heard about the shootings in Back of the Yards on Atlanta's public radio station this morning. Why is only Chicago's crime national news? It's because of Obama for sure.

When 13 people, including a 3 year old, get shot in one incident it tends to be national news.

True. But whenever I'd bring up some mass shootings that happened in Atlanta some years back, people don't know what I'm talking about--even Atlantans lol.

What mass shootings? We NEVER had a shooting that resulted in 5 or more people being killed/
