Just wondering --- it looks like the typical noise ordinance of Chicago states that actual construction noise/ activities cannot begin until 8 am.

They are doing work literally 6-7 feet from my bedroom on the street using a chainsaw-like tool and an array of power equipment.

Does anyone have any experience with this? Can I call the police on this construction company and see if they will enforce the noise ordinance, or do I have to call someone else? Or is 7 am construction on a weekday somehow legal after all with the right bribes?

Let me know --- earplugs in last night did not help this morning

Call the police, LOL. They'll show up 2 days later for something like that.

11-4-2835 section (b) says that the 8am time restriction doesn't apply to public works projects or emergency repairs. If it is a roadway project, you are SOL.

Yes. There is usually a sign up on the fence that says when they are allowed to start making noise. The world doesn't revolve around your schedule.

They've been randomly doing that on my street (on Grand/Halsted) for weeks now--sometimes beginning earlier than 7 am on a weekend (which surprises me even more so).

FYI, that ordinance doesn't exist anymore. It's not in the current municipal code.

The new ordinance is 8-32-140. But it says the same thing you quoted above.

Got it. I downloaded it a few years ago when I was on a condo board that was having issues with a neighboring construction project, so it's a few years old.
