If the events in the Ukraine linger on, I wonder if it will spur new immigration to the Ukrainian Village?

The Ukrainian Village is substantially gentrified and former populations died off and offspring populations have mostly disbursed. New immigrants from anywhere would be hard-pressed to afford the area.

The beautiful churches continue to get reasonably large crowds during the holidays, especially orthodox Easter.

If and big if, there is another wave of Ukrainian immigration it won't be to UV, maybe Albany Park, Edgewater, or other affordable/social service rich 'hoods but more likely NW suburban Niles, Skokie, BG, etc

Despite the gentrification of the area there are still a good amount of Ukrainians living there. That being said, I would have to agree that any wave of new immigrants would probably flock to a cheaper neighborhood.

No there isn't.

Way back in 1990 there were only 2,500 left. That was almost 25 years ago. I would doubt there is even half that now.

Ukrainian Village

UK Village is more Ukrainian than Pilsen is Czech but not by much... but why is this important? Anybody who's moving to a new city can live wherever the **** they want as long as they can afford it and they want to.

A new Ukrainian coming to Chicago may see the name "Ukrainian Village" and be drawn to it. Not a ton of Ukrainians there, but there's still some eastern european/Ukrainian grcoeries/bakeries, Ukrainian church, Ukrainian social club, etc. I actually have a friend who's originally from Ukraine who moved to Chicago last year to Ukrainian Village because of the name. She has actually shown me a few Ukrainian things there (a grocer/baker and a church).

Not quite. I still see and hear some Ukrainians there but no Czechs in Pilsen, just Mexicans and white hipsters.

I guess all Im saying is its irrelevant. The notion that the U.S. is going to see another Ukranian influx is highly unlikely, and even if it did I doubt it would line up with old-world settlement patterns.
