I just need to vent...

What is the deal with all the middle-aged white men and their huge golf umbrellas every time it rains? They take up way more space than everyone else and tend to walk at a snail's pace while they discuss the politics of Winnetka (or maybe that's just the morons I was stuck walking behind today). Some of us are trying to get to work quickly.

Middle-aged white men, please consider using a reasonably sized umbrella!

lol! i just dealt with this. I used a small umbrella and raised or lowered as to not collide with said middle aged men, zooming past them.

Unfortunately i am at eye level with most umbrellas. People of all shapes and sizes are pretty bad with umbrellas and the tight quarters of walking on sidewalks during rush makes it a problem. I generally hate them and decided a few years ago that I would rather be wet and not use an umbrella.

I need to buy one of those "single person" umbrellas like the ones present in London. That city knows its umbrellas.

I'll assume it's because the wind will destroy a small fold up umbrella. I just bought a large golf umbrella for the times when it is raining hard. If it is just a light rain, I'll still use a cheap fold up one.

hahaha....so true. I don't understand how and why people carry such massive umbrellas to work. I don't run into these as much but there's been a few times and it's so annoying. Is it sad that I pictured Chet when you said this too (whatever he looks like)?

Sorry, I don't like umbrella's either. I think the worst is when some idiot opens one up at a Bear's game -- not only do those giant golf umbrellas block the view of about half a dozen people the water invariably gets funneled right into the lap of the folks a seat over!

Well, they make umbrellas that are designed to stand up to wind that are not enormous:

GustBuster® - The World's Smartest Umbrella

They could be smaller, but they are nowhere near the size of a golf umbrella!

You see? I work in the loop and I use rapid trans. Whenever I tell people: "I don't own an umbrella" they think that I am strange.

I just don't use 'em. Please do not ask what I do when it rains. You know the answer.
