My hubby and I are moving to the Chicago area in a month. I've been looking online at possible places to live. We'll be renting a small apartment until our current house sells. We're debating on whether we want to live in the city or suburbs. I stumbled across some nice apartment listings in the Rogers Park and Andersonville area. The apartments looked pretty nice, but what's the area like? Is it safe?

I wouldn't say Rogers Park is the safest area of the city, but it's not the west side ghettos either. Be diligant and check your surrounding before signing a lease. There are very nice sections in RP and there are very bad sections in RP.
Old Irving Park is about the same distance to downtown, (no lake views however) but a much more stable community

Rogers Park has it's 'good side' and bad side. However, if you are new to the city - I wouldnt recommend it as a first apartment.

Andersonville is Hipster Central. It's where all the hipsters went when they were priced out of Bucktown & Wicker Park. I wouldnt call it 'gay' - but it's got it's share.

Rogers Park is much more interesting if a little "gritty" than andersonville. the latter is a lot of fun - nice shops a village like feel. If you are homophobic you might not like it though - it's pretty gay - which I think makes it much more fun.
RP is getting a littler posher - or trying to anyway. It varies block by block really but generally the further north you go toward Howard and the further north east you go the more iffy it is. the parking sucks too - but so does it in andersonville.

Nobody cares where you're from. That's why nobody asked, least of all in a 4-year-old thread.
