Humboldt Park technically ends at 1800 N. which is where Logan square starts.

But some describe Humboldt Park at ending at 1600 N. and Logan Square starting at 2000 N. so it's tough to give a nickname to the area between 1600 N. and 2000 N., as it is 2 different neighborhoods.

But why not call it the 606? Or the Bloomingdale trail. And that is certainly gentrifying.

Bloomingdale is the commonly accepted demarcation between Logan and Humbolt.

That's precisely what it is! The condo developers/landlords are just piggybacking onto Bucktown's upscale image. It fully gentrified years before Humboldt Park even started gentrifying. So of course there's money to be made in selling its image: Bucktown sounds "safer" than Humboldt Park, plain and simple.

If the condo developers/landlords must profit off the name Bucktown, let them call it "west of Bucktown", with "west" not capitalized. Then at least it'd be accurate without using a fabricated name.

Doesn't seem likely a new name like that would stick, especially if there's a well-known name for the neighborhood as is. If the question is whether or not it'll gentrify into something like Bucktown--maybe?

Was thinking that if there were one or two in-fill stations for Metra where the Milwaukee District North and Milwaukee District West interlined before the Western Avenue stop, then the neighborhood would pretty quickly become a much more appealing option.

West Bucktown is the small part of Bucktown west of Western Avenue that is *not* within the official Chicago Community Area of Humboldt Park. It is pretty nice. Informally, it goes about as far west as Rockwell and as far north as Fullerton (so into the Logan Square Community Area a little).

The "real" Humboldt Park is farther west and is also gentrifying, but I wouldn't go so far as to call it pretty nice yet.

But we already include the blocks on the east side of the actual park as part of the Humboldt Park neighborhood, even though it's in the West Town community area, not the Humboldt Park community area. The part of your "West Bucktown" south of Bloomingdale is also in the West Town community area, also near the park itself, and it borders (but is not part of) Logan Square and Bucktown. Therefore, I call that area Humboldt Park as well (the part north of Bloomingdale would just be Logan Square).

thats funny, cuz I grew up near north avenue and narragansett, and as a teen, we'd regularly drive down north ave all the way down town and remember vividly when the REAL bucktown was a very sketchy area full of hookers and what not.

Well, that was then and this is now. The real Bucktown is middle to upper middle class and many houses sell for over $1 million. There's one that's reportedly worth over $3 million.

I am old enough to remember when the real Bucktown was all Polish. So there.

The 2000s wars between the MLDs and the Cobras were some of the toughest in the city. Some people actually avoided going to school just to not get caught in the crossfire. But that was the 2000s, not 2010s.

And earlier still, Bucktown was Jewish. It got its name from the goats the first area residents kept in their backyards. (In early Chicago history, it wasn't uncommon to keep animals in your backyard for food, but most non-Jewish residents kept pigs.)

It seems like Bucktown's history goes hand-in-hand with Wicker Park's. I took a college class where I learned that Wicker Park was Polish too at one point. Then it became Mexican (like Pilsen today), then an art colony, and now a yuppie area.
